A Shoot with Sarah Angel

(click/tap images for larger view)

Hello and Happy New Year.  All the best for everyone in 2017 no wait… 2018!  - I'm the person that will be writing 2017 for the next 6 months until I finally remember it's 2018.

Starting this year this blog is being brought back to client work and personal work only.  For the technical and photograph tutorial related blog posts you can go check out my other blog – The Craft.

This shoot is one of the last shoots of 2017 (the others are in post-production).

I have photographed Sarah a few times and she always brings a ton of energy to a shoot/set.  We started with the blue background to A fit the looks and ideas and B to break away from White Seamless for a little while, although you will see that I ended up back on that classic setup later on.

As a photographer sometimes, it’s on you to come up with an idea for a shot or a lighting setup that fits but thankfully a lot of the time the work comes from a collaboration and a team.  I have always considered any shoot to be a collaboration, they just have to be… I work with people (clients, models, students, assistants, MUA’s) and everyone is part of the team for that job. Anyway let’s get to the images.

After the first set we kept the blue background and changed the look and the lighting to fit.

As a portrait photographer I enjoy working with people and catching moments and reactions the most.. sure, get the concept sorted and the lighting right but all of that is secondary once you have a person on set.  This also means that with me sometimes (read a lot of the time) being a goofball we get laughs on set which are all good by me.

Once we felt we had what we wanted on the blue background set we changed the look and moved on to my old stomping ground (White Seamless).  It has become part of my work/my style,  clean and true & consistent have been said before by others and I am starting to see that myself.

I mentioned earlier that Sarah brings a great energy to the set.  She also dances better than I do... come to think of it most people do.. yeah I dad dance even though I'm not a dad.  Moving on. :)

Sometimes I get told to stop and behave.   Stop being a goofball Rick!

Yeah I didn’t listen.  :)

After a busy couple of months I finally had time to edit the BTS video from this shoot. Recorded in first person view via a Sony Action Cam.

I am really looking forward to 2018, getting to work on some new projects, working with new clients and pushing myself further as a photographer.

What are you working on & looking forward to in 2018?  Let me know in the comments below.

Thank you for reading and for your support in 2017.
