E-Commerce Fashion

It’s been a while since I blogged.

Before 2019 came to an end I started working on a new body of work to pitch to potential new clients.  Fast forward to today and things have changed in a big way.

Whilst things are on hold and I am trying to figure things out behind the scenes in this new position we find out selves in I thought what better time to update the blog.  Here goes.

But before I get going, I do hope you are all well and please stay safe.

Back in Nov 2019 I booked Bethany Cammack in for a studio shoot and got to work shooting some fashion/E-commerce looks to add to my portfolio/body of work.

The plan being to shoot the new work and package it together in a promo and ad campaign, to be honest that is still the plan, but I have no idea what the landscape will be in X months’ time. Add that to the fact I can’t go working with people until COVID-19 is over… it’s difficult to figure all this out.

On to the shoot.

I booked Bethany and called a local photographer Rob in as an assistant for the day and we got to work.  If memory serves me right, I first worked with Bethany back in 2011 and it’s been great to see her grow into the amazing person and hard working model she is today.

For fashion and E-Commerce it is all about the products, the clothes.  The person wearing them plays a huge part don’t get me wrong but you have to consider the outfit and clothing to show it in it’s best light (pun totally intended).

The first thing to do is take a look at the outfits, the colours, tones and feel and setup/light to fit that look.  I didn’t have a client brief for this shoot nor any client direction but what I did have were my own thoughts and research and the collaborative input of my team for the day.  Think you can do all this alone… news flash.. you can’t.   It takes a team.

Our first set was a simple look against a dark background.  I like these simple set as they act as a warmup for everyone and gives a little time for everyone to get dialled in and working together.

The next set was for the red outfit/look and we decided that the blue background was the best compliment to this colour.  Sure white, grey and black would work but the blue changed things up a little and added to the bold/bright colour nature of the look.

The next look was another bold colour on blue. A bright yellow floaty dress for some movement and smiles. Bethany knocked it out of the park as always.

For movement shots that can be delivered so show movement (motion blur) or frozen in time for a crisp sharp image.  The Pixapro (Affiliate) lighting I use in the studio affords me the option which is nice.

Moving to the final look we went back to a mor casual look and added a hat.  A change of background compliments the colour palate and feel of the images.  Something a little calmer and more relaxed with a softer look.

I will end with a short BTS video below.

Thank you to Bethany & Rob for being part of the team.  Look forward to working together again once we can.
