Back in June this year I had the pleasure of photographing Geraldine from GEGE Movement. Geraldine is a Yoga/Pilates instructor and also a dancer and performer often working away on cruise ships.
Otherwise, a bundle of energy and a wonderful person to work with.
I originally met Geraldine during a client’s 121 training session a few years back and I have been looking forward to catching up and shooting since.
The team for this shoot was just me as button pusher and Geraldine as awesome human on set. The rest is history.
Let’s get on to the images.

#makeportraits - Rob...
This #makeportraits shoot was a little different as in I was photographing another photographer. Rob is a local photographer who shoots portraits and gigs. He has attended a few of my workshops and events this year for which I am thankful for.
Rob was also gracious enough to visit the studio for a couple of hours to let me #makeportraits of him. We talked about photography, our work and our struggles along with what’s happening in the industry. It’s always good to sit and talk with someone who works in the same industry as you do because you can both vent, ask questions and generally talk shop.
Rob James Seymour + Testing new-ish gear.
Back in March I managed to finally complete my stills bag by adding a second Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon EF 70-200 F2.8L IS (Version 1 ) which means I am good gear wise for a while. The only exception would be a more powerful location light which in reality will only happen if work that requires that power becomes a regular thing, that subject matter is a whole other blog post.
One thing I always do with any new gear after sitting and looking at it for a few minuets... is test it.
The lenses and camera bodies go through Auto Focus calibration using Focal software and the gear gets a clean/general test to make sure everything works as it should, the firmware also gets update if required. FYI it was required for the newly acquired 5D2 because it was still on the original firmware.
It's at this point I notice any differences between the cameras, for example the LCD on the backup 5D2 is brighter than my main body at the same brightness setting, this stuff gets filled away in my brain.
I also spend some time making sure the camera bodies are set-up the same from the custom shooting modes (C1,C1,C3) to the custom functions, this is so I can just grab the backup as a second body or a ... (I hope this never happens) backup after failure and the cameras feel and act the same. Same body, same sensor, same everything... ok apart from the LCD brightness but I can live with that.
Once all this is done it's time to use it on a job so I can run the new gear in the field and review the files later in post. That said below are some images from the shoot with Rob.
We started in the studio whilst waiting for the weather to clear and then headed out to see what photographs I could find nearby the studio.
Thankfully I can report the backup camera (Now called 5D2 B) and the 70-200 work great, the only thing I noticed with the lens is that it does not handle a white seamless set as well as the Canon 24-105 F4L but it is plenty sharp enough and I like the way it renders skin and colour which is partly down to that sensor in the 5D2. I love that sensor.
After shooting a lot of studio work lately I enjoyed getting out on location even if it was close by to the studio. Rob was great to work with, the gear all worked... it was a good day.
I understand that a lot of this might seem somewhat anal but, I have a job to do on set and I also need to make sure my gear is good to go. As a working photographer I need to know it inside out, we all should know our gear. We owe this to our clients, the craft and ourselves.
Thank you for reading.

Lisa & Craig Johnson - Their Wedding Day at the Swettenham Arms
On July 11th I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Lisa & Craig, what a great day it was.
Before The Day...
A few months before the wedding day I meet Lisa and Craig at the venue (The Swettenham Arms) to confirm what they were looking for and to get an idea of the venue/location as well as meet the staff at the venue.
During this meeting I had a good look around and took some reference photos to plan for group shots as well as consider how I would shoot the day/ceremony knowing it was to be held outside. Of course since I had the camera on me I took a few photos of Craig and Harry whilst Lisa was speaking to the venue owners.
The Wedding Day...
For the wedding day I was assigned to document the day in a candid/photo-journalistic style with very few posed portraits/shots. I like to work in this way as it's a huge change from the normal portrait work I will do in studio or on location.
I had some time before guests started to arrive and used it to grab some detail shots and introduce myself to the staff at the venue.
As the guest started to arrive I photographed them as they met with family, friends and the groom before the brides arrival.
With every one in place it was time for the beautiful bride Lisa to arrive in style by way of Rolls Royce. She was walked to ceremony area outside by her farther.
With the brides arrival, family and friends present it was time for the ceremony to go ahead. I could not of asked for better light on the day. Some family members gave beautiful speeches before we all got to see Lisa & Craig become husband and wife, during which some laughs and great moments ensued. What a great couple.
After the ceremony the celebrations started. Group and family shots were covered before we all headed inside for the meal and the evening celebrations.
A great day was had celebrating a great moment for Lisa and Craig. Thank you for letting me be part of your wedding day and I wish you all the best for your futures together.
Thank you for reading.
