I have had this idea in my head for a while but I had no idea how I was going to start it or run it. Do I create and run a totally different site or just keep it simple with a blog?, I decided on the latter not only for simplicity but also cost. So what is The Craft ?

To put it in it's simplest form it's a Photography Blog about the craft of Photography. But Why? Ok allow me to pull up an apple box and take a seat.

We are fortunate to have a ton of resources at our disposal via the internet but at the same time unfortunate, wait what!?

After spending the last 3-4 years working with photographers at studio events and workshops I have developed a good skill of getting a read on a photographers level, some say they know their camera, their lens and just need to learn the next thing but I can see holes in their foundations and they are sinking.

If you ask a working photographer what the reciprocal exposures of F4 at 1/30th are they should know them. Many don't.

You need to know your camera, know your lens, know light (you will always be a student of this by the way and it will regularly kick your ass). Know your gear, know the fundamentals. The Craft starts here.

Holes.. Holes that need filling. Here we go.

This blog will also support tutorials that I upload to YouTube as well as workshops that I run at my studio. Think of it as a resource to help you with your photography and The Craft.

Along with the above. Those of you who know me will already be aware I have things to say about Photography so expect articles and content that go beyond the technical. I will also post the odd review but this won't be a full on review site, the world has plenty of those.

Also you won't see presets or actions for sale here, wrong blog. This is The Craft.

I need to figure a few things out and in fact as you read this I have posts scheduled ready for launch day. Main reason I wanted some time to get some content ready and not feel pressured straight after launch.

Wait don't you already have a blog? You are correct but I want that to focus on client work and personal work only. Client shoots, Behind The Scenes will all go on my main blog. The Craft will be where the tutorials and technical lives.

The Craft - Photography will demand a lot from you and it's an uphill climb with no safety rope. I hope this blog can help just a few of you start that climb and also help me along the way whilst doing so.
